Dear Friends, Family, and Neighbors,
I’m proud to welcome you to the very first edition of The Local Lowdown — your monthly connection to what’s happening in Southwest Oklahoma City. As your councilwoman, it’s my honor to represent such a vibrant, diverse, and hardworking community. This newsletter is designed with you in mind: a space where we’ll share updates, highlight local events, celebrate neighborhood successes, and tackle the issues that matter most to our part of OKC.
Southwest OKC is full of potential — from growing small businesses to strong schools, dedicated public servants, and families who care deeply about their neighborhoods. But we also know there’s work to do: improving infrastructure, ensuring public safety, supporting our youth, and creating more opportunities for everyone who calls this area home.
My goal with The Local Lowdown is simple: transparency, accessibility, and collaboration. Whether it’s city projects, policy decisions, or community events, you deserve to know what’s going on — and you deserve a voice in shaping our future.
I hope you’ll find this newsletter useful, informative, and even inspiring. And I hope it encourages more conversations, ideas, and partnerships that move us forward together.

On the Road

Project updates, plans in motion, and what’s ahead for SW OKC streets

Road conditions remain one of the top concerns for SW OKC residents — and with good reason! Whether it’s fixing what’s worn down or building for future growth, street infrastructure directly affects our daily lives and neighborhood pride. Below, you’ll find an overview of current road projects in our area, along with their status and what’s coming next.

• SW 15th-Mustang to Sara - Widening- expected completion Q4 2025

• SW 15th-Czech Hall to Mustang Rd - Widening-expected completion Q4 2025

• SW 29th-Rockwell to MacArthur - Widening-expected to begin Q3 2025

• Cemetery-Reno to NW 10th - Widening-expected to begin Q1 2026

• Czech Hall-Reno to SW 15th - Widening-begins late 2025

• SW 59th-Council to Rockwell - Widening-expected to begin Q3 2026

• SW 59th-County Line to Hwy152 - Widening-expected to begin Q3 2026

• SW59th-County Line to Council - Resurfacing-expected to begin Q3 2026

If you have a road issue to report — like potholes, drainage problems, or street damage — use the OKC Action Center at okc.gov/action to submit a request. Be sure to write down your case number. If the issue hasn’t been resolved within 10 days of acknowledgment, email your case number and details to Ward3@okc.gov for follow-up.

Southwest OKC is more than streets and city services — it’s the people, businesses, and neighborhoods that make it feel like home. In Faces & Places, we’ll shine a light on the individuals, stories, and spots that give our community its unique character. From local leaders to hidden gems, this is where we celebrate what makes our corner of OKC special.

OKC Ward 3 Districts

This summer, the WesTen District unveiled a new historical marker honoring Council Grove, placed at 820 N. MacArthur on the grounds of Castle Falls Wedding Venue & Restaurant. Council Grove originally earned its name from a grove of cottonwood, elm, and oak trees that served as a gathering site for Plains tribes—such as the Comanche, Kiowa, and Creek—and later became a key trading post along the Chisholm Trail under Jesse Chisholm in the mid‑1800s. This recognition reconnects our community to its roots in Native diplomacy, frontier commerce, and early settlement. The marker was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Robin Jones, whose passion for preserving local history continues to enrich the WesTen District. If you haven’t seen it yet, stop by to explore this meaningful piece of history.

Answering the big questions and buzzing topics on everyone’s mind in SW OKC

Hot Topic: Who is responsible for mowing the right-of-way?
This has been a common question this year, especially with the increased rainfall leading to fast-growing grass and vegetation. Overgrown areas aren’t just unsightly — they can also create dangerous visibility issues at intersections, making proper maintenance a safety concern. In most cases, the responsibility for mowing the street right-of-way — the grassy area between the street and your property line — falls on the adjacent property owner. However, there can be exceptions. If you’re unsure or have a concern about an overgrown area, the best first step is check with the property owner (if you can) and explore solutions to help our neighbors and community. If this isn’t possible, contact the OKC Action Center at (405) 297‑2535 to discuss the issue and determine whether a complaint should be filed. If you do file a complaint, make sure to document your case number — and if it hasn’t been resolved within 10 days, email the case number and details to Ward3@okc.gov for follow-up.

Spotlight: Online Tools to Support OKC Police

The Oklahoma City Police Department recently added two helpful online systems for residents — one to file non-emergency police reports and another to submit compliments or complaints about officer conduct. While both tools are important, we especially encourage you to take a moment to recognize the dedication of our hardworking officers. A kind word goes a long way in a tough job, and positive feedback helps reinforce the service and professionalism we count on every day.
