A Note from Ward 3’s Katrina Avers on the 2025 GO Bond…

I hope this message finds you well.  Several have asked for an update on our recent town halls. I’m reaching out because this year, our community has a real chance to shape the future of Ward 3 — and I want you to feel empowered, informed, and excited about what’s ahead. This is our opportunity to vote, share, and have a STRONG VOICE for change in Ward 3 infrastructure - this vote only happens once every 10 years - the TIME IS NOW!!

Why the 2025 GO Bond Matters

The 2025 General Obligation (GO) Bond is our opportunity to vote on things that directly affect our daily lives: safer roads, better drainage, stronger public safety, and more vibrant parks. As your Ward 3 representative, I’m proud to report that in this bond we’ve significantly elevated our priorities, almost tripling the investment in Ward 3 and focusing on our communities 3 needs and a want.

There are 11 separate propositions - YOU get to vote on each one, individually.

  • Proposition #1 - Streets

  • Proposition #2 - Bridges

  • Proposition #3 - Traffic Systems

  • Proposition #4 - City Maintenance, Data, and Service Facilities

  • Proposition #5 - Economic and Community Development

  • Proposition #6 - Parks & Recreational Facilities

  • Proposition #7 - Libraries & Learning Centers

  • Proposition #8 - Drainage Control

  • Proposition #9 - Transit and Parking

  • Proposition #10 - Police Facilities, Courts and Family Justice Facilities

  • Proposition #11 - Fire Facilities

Here’s how Ward 3’s priorities map to the bond’s propositions:

  • WHAT IT MEANS FOR US:

Fixing potholes, resurfacing, and improving street connectivity to make travel smoother and safer. Widening arterial streets and providing related infrastructure (sidewalks, stormwater systems)

  • WHAT IT MEANS FOR US:

Investing in infrastructure to reduce flooding, protect property, and manage runoff

  • WHAT IT MEANS FOR US:

Strengthening police & fire capacity, improving emergency response times, adding facilities where needed

  • WHAT IT MEANS FOR US: Upgrading existing parks, creating new green spaces, and improving trails, playgrounds & amenities

This is how we keep US moving forward together. Your vote on this bond is how you make your voice heard!

Beyond the Bond: What You’ve Told Me Matters

In my recent town halls and neighborhood conversations, three issues have come up repeatedly. I want you to know I hear you — and I’m taking action:

  • We all want growth that respects our character and enhances livability—not haphazard construction. I’ve asked neighboring businesses and residents to post signage and host early information meetings before formal applications so we can have open, constructive conversations about proposed plans, concerns, and solutions.

  • If you’ve ever gotten a notice about weeds or ditch maintenance, you’ve probably felt the tone was harsh or the responsibility confusing. The mixed messages are real. I’m working directly with county commissioners and the city manager’s office to craft a clear, fair policy on roles and responsibilities — so our roads and ditches are maintained safely and in a timely way. You’ll hear from me later this month about the resolution.

  • Safe streets and neighborhoods are core to all of us. We’re bolstering police presence in Ward 3 through community outreachincreased traffic safety efforts, and patrols focused on hotspots. Best of all, the GO Bond includes funding for new police and fire stations right here in Ward 3, bringing services closer to you.

  • Mark your calendar for OCT 14  — vote in the upcoming municipal election and be sure to review the GO Bond propositions. Visit https://vision.okc.gov/go-bond-2025 for a list of all the projects and a sample ballot.

What You Can Do

  • Spread the word — talk to your neighbors, friends, and family about what’s in the bond and why it matters. Share on social!

Together, we can make sure Ward 3 gets the infrastructure investment it needs. Let’s vote for our roads, safety, and a brighter future.

Thank you for being an engaged neighbor. I’ll keep you posted as we move forward, and as always, feel free to reach out with ideas, questions, or concerns.

Warmly,

Katrina Avers
Councilwoman Ward 3
